Today Congressman Charlie Rangel (D-NY) introduced a bill to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to cover even more hardworking Americans. The EITC is a federal program that provides a refundable tax credit for people whose incomes are below or at the poverty line. Congressman Rangel’s bill will decrease the qualifying age for single people from 25 to 21, increase the benefits for childless workers, and index the benefits to inflation.

Congressman Charles B. Rangel joined President Barack Obama at the White House to support the launch of the “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative, a new plan aimed at finding ways in which business and civic leaders can intervene at just the right moment to keep young black men and other men of color on a successful course. Rangel was one of the few Members of Congress invited, among local and national leaders in philanthropy, business, government, faith communities, and media.

The event will feature a presentation by former Ambassador to the United Nations, Suzan Johnson Cook, and Herb Boyd of Amsterdam News, who will participate in the discussion and answer questions from the audience.
